The post-Bac exam landscape in Morocco
Every year, tens of thousands of Moroccan Bac graduates sit competitive entrance exams for the top schools and faculties. Unlike open-access programs, these institutions select students in two stages: a pre-selection on file (your Bac average) followed by a written exam, usually made of MCQs.
The five families every final-year student should know are:
- Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry (FMP / FMD);
- ENSA — National Schools of Applied Sciences (engineering);
- ENSAM — Arts et Métiers engineering schools;
- ENCG — National Schools of Commerce and Management;
- ISPITS — Higher Institutes of Nursing and Health Techniques.
Medicine (FMP / FMD): who is it for?
Medicine is the most selective exam in Morocco, opening the doors of the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy (FMP) and Dentistry (FMD) in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Fès, Oujda, Agadir, Tangier and Laâyoune.
Ideal profile
- Science Bac (PC, SVT) with a very high average (often 16/20+ to be pre-selected);
- Strong foundations in biology, chemistry, physics and fast calculation;
- Ability to memorize large volumes and stay consistent long-term.
Pros
- Prestigious, stable careers
- High social impact
- Internationally recognized degree
Cons
- Extremely selective
- Long studies (7+ years)
- Very high pre-selection threshold

ENSA & ENSAM: the engineering path
If you want to become an engineer without two years of preparatory classes, the post-Bac ENSA and ENSAM exams are for you. They recruit right after the Bac and award a state engineering degree in 5 years.
ENSA — Applied Sciences
A network of schools across the country (Agadir, Khouribga, Marrakech, Fès, Tangier, Oujda, Kénitra, El Jadida, Safi, Tétouan…). The written exam focuses on mathematics and physics.
ENSAM — Arts et Métiers
Schools in Casablanca, Meknès and Rabat, focused on mechanical, industrial and electrical engineering, with a strong math-physics component.
ENCG: business and management
The ENCG schools train future managers in commerce, finance, marketing and management, with schools in Settat, Tangier, Agadir, Kénitra, Oujda, Casablanca, Fès, Marrakech, El Jadida, Dakhla and more.
Admission runs through the TAFEM test, which assesses logical reasoning, general knowledge, languages (French, English) and problem-solving.
ISPITS: health professions
The ISPITS train health professionals: nurses, midwives, lab, radiology and physiotherapy technicians, and more. It's an excellent route into healthcare without sitting the medicine exam.
The written exam is based on MCQs in biology (SVT), chemistry, physics and French. Demanding, but more accessible than medicine.
Side-by-side comparison
| Exam | Recommended Bac | Subjects | Duration | Main career | Selectivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Medicine (FMP/FMD) | PC, SVT | Bio, Chemistry, Physics, Maths | 7+ years | Doctor, pharmacist, dentist | Very high |
| ENSA | SM, PC | Maths, Physics | 5 years | State engineer | High |
| ENSAM | SM, PC | Maths, Physics | 5 years | State engineer | High |
| ENCG | Eco, Science, Humanities | Logic, Languages (TAFEM) | 5 years | Management executive | Medium–high |
| ISPITS | SVT, PC | Bio, Chemistry, Physics, French | 3 years | Nurse, midwife, technician | Medium |
Indicative comparison — always confirm exact conditions on each school's official portal.
Which exam for YOUR Bac stream?
Mathematical Sciences Bac (SM A / SM B)
A perfect fit for engineering: target ENSA and ENSAM first. You can also try ENCG, where your maths help on the TAFEM logic.
Physical Sciences Bac (PC)
The most versatile profile: you can target Medicine, ENSA/ENSAM and ISPITS. Use it to apply widely.
Life & Earth Sciences Bac (SVT)
Your biology is a major asset for Medicine and especially ISPITS — make those your main targets.
Economics & Management Bac
Head for ENCG via the TAFEM. Sharpen your logic, French and English.
Humanities Bac
ENCG is still reachable through the TAFEM with strong general knowledge and languages. Prepare specifically for the test format.
The winning multi-exam strategy
The biggest mistake Bac graduates make? Betting on a single exam. Pre-selection and exam dates are often staggered, so you can prepare and sit several in the same year.
- PC Bac: Medicine + ENSA/ENSAM + ISPITS;
- SVT Bac: Medicine + ISPITS;
- SM Bac: ENSA + ENSAM + ENCG.
The advantage: many of these exams share the same subjects (maths, physics, chemistry, biology). Well-organized revision serves several exams at once — and that's exactly where MCQ practice makes the difference.
"I was only aiming for medicine. By also preparing ISPITS and ENSA with the same MCQs, I got two extra admissions — and far less stress."
FAQ
Can you sit several exams in one year?
Yes, as long as the exam dates don't overlap. It's actually recommended to boost your chances.
Do you need prep classes before ENSA or ENSAM?
No. The post-Bac ENSA and ENSAM exams recruit directly after the Bac.
Is ISPITS easier than medicine?
The threshold and exam level are generally more accessible, but preparation stays serious — biology and French are decisive.
How do I know if my average is enough?
Compare it to previous years' pre-selection thresholds. See our 2026 pre-selection thresholds guide.
